From Persia, Reborn

Peyk is a Persian raisin spirit returned to the table, made in Yorkshire, faithful to a tradition older than the country it was born in.

The Heritage

For generations, Aragh Saggi has been a companion to celebration, rebellion and deeply held tradition. Its name translates literally as "dog's sweat", a colloquial nod to its raw, unpolished nature. This traditional Persian distillate ran through Iranian gatherings, made in secret and shared quietly.

Its history runs alongside the history of modern Iran. Before 1979, the Meikadeh company produced this raisin-based spirit, with a distinctive beagle emblem on the bottle. Prohibition then pushed production into the shadows and turned a commercial staple into an act of quiet defiance.

Years of secret distillation gave Aragh Saggi a certain mystique, but the quality varied widely. The spirit's crisp, fruit-forward notes, which come from sultana raisins, were often lost in the crude methods that secrecy demanded.

“Arak was never just a drink. It was a ritual, and we are bringing the ritual back.”

Reza Lami and Faz Fallah, two members of the Iranian diaspora living in the UK, felt their cultural inheritance deserved a wider audience. For them, Aragh Saggi was tied to memory: uncles laughing in smoke-filled rooms, quiet toasts, and a home left behind.

Wanting to reconnect with their roots, Reza and Faz set out to revive Aragh Saggi. They worked to strip away the harshness that secrecy had forced on it and bring out the cleaner, more refined spirit underneath. They refined the process with care, using quality raisins and triple distillation.

The result is Peyk Arak. It keeps the character of the original spirit while meeting the standards of modern production and mixology.

What is "Peyk"?

In Farsi, "Peyk" has two meanings. Literally, it means "messenger", which suits a spirit that connects London and Tehran, past and present.

Colloquially, a "peyk" is also a shot glass, the vessel for a toast. It is an invitation to gather, celebrate and share. With Peyk Arak, Reza and Faz pass on a message from their heritage in every glass.
